Every year, the Art Gallery of New South Wales holds an open competition for artists resident in Australasia. The paintings are judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW and the finalists are displayed in a special exhibition.
As stated on the website, the Archibald Prize is “awarded annually to the best portrait, ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics’.” In addition, “JF Archibald’s aim was to foster portraiture as well as support artists and perpetuate the memory of great Australians.”
My hubby is a pretty great Australian. And I think he qualifies, especially since he’s quite distinguished in art. One day, I just might paint a portrait of him and enter it into the competition. Bucket list item #10.
