Last night as we watched the semi-finals of The Voice (Australia), my husband and I called out the names of each finalist based on the predictability of Australian culture. On each team, there was at least one minority with a 50/50 chance of making it into the finals. But one by one, each of them failed to win the votes of the Australian people: cool, older dude with possibly the best naturally talented and experienced voice on the show? GONE; African-American dude with incredible soul? GONE; Asian girl with unique voice style? GONE; Lauryn Hill-esque Tongan woman? GONE. Who’s left? Oh right.
I thought Australia was multi-cultural. Guess not so much.
