Australian Thanksgiving 2013

It was a blessing this year to be able to celebrate an American holiday with my Australian family. My mother-in-law roasted the turkey, baked up some Aussie-style potatoes, and macaroni & cheese, and I was in charge of bringing the other traditional fixin’s: sweet potato bake, green bean casserole, and homemade stuffing! And as if that wasn’t enough to keep us full, there was fresh fruit, ice cream, brownies and Southern pecan pie for dessert.

Just before the feasting began, I organized a little family trivia game about the history of Thanksgiving and gave out a prize for the winner. Then Uncle Mike gave a small speech about the purpose of Thanksgiving and why it is celebrated and the turkey was carved shortly after. It turned out to be a fun day enjoyed by all.
