America Abroad

The other day, I caught up with one of my girlfriends in the city to check out the “America” exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. I have to admit, I thought it was a fairly accurate exhibition of American history.

What was not so accurate was the following exhibition of what Americans eat for breakfast, which we discovered that same day at David Jones.

Truly, it was an eye-opener. Is this what Australians think of Americans? That we spend $99.95 on processed junk food for breakfast? Clearly, whoever was in charge of making these silly Christmas gift baskets and marketing them as “American Breakfast” in the David Jones Food Hall department knows absolutely NOTHING about America. Sure, we might eat instant oatmeal for brekky, but definitely not marshmallow creme, peanut butter & jelly, corn muffins, Pop Tarts, and Aunt Jemima Pancakes in all the same sitting. No wonder Aussies think so lowly of our eating habits!
